User-Generated Content or UGC is content or media created by someone for a brand or business to be used in their digital marketing materials including social media posts, website, social media post and video ads.
So instead of a brand or business spending thousands if not hundreds of thousands on a marketing team or an influencer, they are looking at hiring multiple Content Creators, typically through a freelancing agreement to create photos, videos, reviews, and demonstrations using their product.
This is a service that I currently offer for brands, and I have some examples and more information on User-Generated Content (UGC) that you can read more about.
If you're on TikTok, you know that being real is what it's all about. Celebrities or influencers with perfect looking lives on social media are not relatable. That is not what the average person is doing Gen Z wants to know what you're all about and they want you to keep it REAL.
That's where UGC comes in. UGC allows brands to show how their customers can use their product from someone who actually uses their product! And I think that if you're a good story teller, you understand (or are willing to learn) social media marketing skills, and you have the time to commit to a side hustle - UGC is the move.
Brands are seeing a return on investment with adding User Generated Content to their marketing strategy According to the User-Generated Content and Social Media Handbook of Media Econo mics, "A growing body of evidence suggests that UGC on platforms ranging from Yelp to Facebook has a large causal impact on economic and social outcomes ranging from restaurant decisions to voting behavior."
But you tell me, would you rather see an influencer on your screen promoting a skin care product or one of your friends who wants to tell you about her favorite product?
